The Fitbit

Karen got one of these fitness trackers for Christmas.  2 months later we came across a Fitbit repackaged at Target for 1/3 off.  So now I have a Fitbit too.  The Fitbit app automatically tracks heartbeat, steps and distance travelled, sleep and calories burned.  I input my meals and amount of water drunk and it compares calories in and calories out.

I have found the heart rate monitor to be the most useful and interesting.  My heart rate has always tended to be in the high normal range or just plain high.  It kept me from going to Vietnam when I was drafted.  Now I have a 24 hr record of my heart rate every day and it is interesting to see when my heart rate rises and falls during the day.

The sleep tracking is pretty neat too.  The device tracks sleep, restlessness and awake time for each night.
All-in-all the Fitbit is more than just a novelty.  If you take the time to enter your meals and fluid intake it keeps you more health aware.  Knowing you are tracking what you eat also reduces the temptation to go off-diet.
