The Tooth the Cracked Tooth and Everything About the Tooth

My poor wife, Penny, has had a miserable time.  It started 2 weeks ago when she lost a filling while we were on the road.  We stopped at CVS and got temporary filling material for her and went on to the Florida Lighthouse Meeting in Tampa.

We returned home the next Monday and made an appointment with our dentist.  She sent Penny to our friendly oral surgeon who promptly extracted what turned out to be a cracked tooth.

Penny also needed a bone graft to make sufficient bone thickness for a soon-to-be tooth implant.  That meant going on a liquid or very soft food diet for about 3 weeks.  That’s not a big problem it just means a little planning to try to stick to our diet and keep things soft.

Any time Penny has work done on her mouth it sets off her other health issue.  She also was in some pain from the surgery and taking some pain meds. The strongest pain meds gave Penny an upset stomach so she quit taking them.

Penny began having periodic chest pain and by Sunday just after half-time of the Super Bowl it was disturbing enough that we went to the Emergency Room.  That began a 3-day hospital stay where Penny got injections, inspections, detections, neglections and all kinds of stuff that.  The worry was that Penny was having a heart attack and since she is a woman and heart attacks in women are manifested differently than with men, the doctors had to check Penny’s heart with every test known to man before giving her a clean bill of health.

Penny’s heart is OK, but 3 days in the hospital will wear anybody down.  The thinking is that she is having some sort of gastro intestinal issue – TBD.

Penny’s been tired and hasn’t been able to do any quilting this week and I’ve been taking care of her needs.  She went back to the oral surgeon today and her mouth is healing fine.  Soft food continues for another 2-weeks.  Penny has been taking things in stride and actually has been calmer and more patient about everything.
