We got out in our kayaks this morning—It was the first kayaking we’ve done in quite a while. It was cool to be out on the water but it was an oppressively hot morning. We did our usual course up to the end of the bayou. Penny waited in the open while I made a short venture up the stream at the head of the bayou.
A good portion of our trip was over glassy water—very little wind. I scared a feeding osprey when I went up the stream and he flew away, carrying his large fish nose first, to another tree. It was so humid and still that my glasses were fogging up as I went deeper into the woods.
When I broke out back on the bayou Penny was sitting perfectly still enjoying a moment of bayou Zen. There was a lot of fish feeding going on around her.
We paddled back feeling the heat. Penny did her normal corkscrew path on the way back. We were back home just about 9AM. This is going to be one hot day. The good news is this means there is a protective high pressure system sitting over us keeping Ike away. I’ll take the heat! I hope the system stays over us for a few more days.
Kitty Update—the night before last all 4 cats showed up at the normal time. The night before that only Buzz was there. The night before that there were no cats. Last night there were no cats again. We think the cats have found a more reliable place to eat. We keep running off. That’s good from the standpoint of us feeling less responsibility for them now. The feeder has plenty of food to last weeks at this rate if for some reason we decide to run off for say 3 weeks or so in the future. The down side is I don’t get my evening dose of kitty affection.
Kitty Update Update--Tonight Buzz and Meredith showed up.
