Sunshine, Pumpkin Pancakes and Apple Pie

We finally had some sunshine this morning so we set out in the local area and took pictures. The weather report called for mostly cloudy skies later today so we were taking advantage of the break in the weather. We visited our favorite local picture spots and got some pictures in between clouds. The local area is not at peak color yet so part of our drive today was scouting for places to revisit later when the color is at peak (assuming we get some sun). We picked up an apple pie that would be our dinner and some banana bread that would serve as breakfast.

It clouded up as predicted and conveniently it was lunchtime. We stopped at a little restaurant that served pumpkin pancakes with maple syrup. I had seen the place yesterday and the pancakes sounded good. They were. Penny got raspberry, blueberry pancakes (almost razzleberry!).

I spent the afternoon finishing up on the firewood storage bin I am modifying to hold more wood for Marty. I worked my hands a little too hard yesterday building the bin and stacking wood so today I only worked on the bin and didn’t do any stacking. The stacking stresses my thumbs the most so I gave them a day of relative rest.

Tomorrow the weather will once again determine our activities. If we have sun we are going to go to Woodstock (VT not NY) and Quiche Gorge. If it is cloudy or rainy, as predicted, it will be a workday. I will stack wood and do laundry.

We are having a good time here. It’s very relaxing. We can’t control the weather so we are working our activities to fit the forecast. So far it’s meant fewer pictures. The foliage is still breathtaking so we are enjoying seeing it. It’s just not very picturesque with no sun. If it rains, certain colors actually look good in pictures and sunlight sets the colors on fire. Cloudy conditions just gray down everything.

The chilly weather and different scenery almost feels as if we are in another country. Vermonters act sufficiently different enough to reinforce the feeling. Add to that the seclusion of the cabin and the coziness of the cool nights and the warm fire and we have really gotten away from it all.
