Right now I am sitting next to Penny. We both are working on our laptops, watching TV with a beautiful fire in the freestanding fireplace.
It is going down into the mid-30’s outside tonight with a chance of frost and it is nice and cozy in front of the fire. We both have reviewed today’s pictures.
We’ve had rain both days up here. Tomorrow, Saturday is supposed to be partly cloudy. Because of the rain we haven’t taken too many pictures. Both days we drove up to northern Vermont where the color is peaking. I drove over 400 miles yesterday and more than 300 today. The foliage is better this year than in the past several years according to a couple of on-line experts. The drives were beautiful but the clouds and rain made good pictures difficult. We sat back and enjoyed the colors and took pictures when it seemed worthwhile.
Yesterday on the drive back we passed through periods of sunshine and heavy rain—rainbow weather like we had in Montana. We saw a number of rainbows and got some pictures on Penny’s camera. Since the rainbows were on my side of the car Penny turned on the camera and handed it to me. I held it up while driving and pointed it in the direction of the rainbow and clicked away. The pictures are on Penny’s computer so I may add one here later.
The peak color comes and goes rain or shine—that’s why we went north and drove so much. We also wanted to avoid the weekend leaf peepers that will be crowding the roads up there.
We planned indoor activities today to beat the rain. We went to Ben and Jerry’s factory in Waterbury and took their tour again. They have improved the tour since our last visit—making the movie they show more humorous and personal and have incorporated another film for the production line coordinated with lighted number signs above each production station as it is described. The tour ends on “sacred” ground, the original tasting kitchen where flavors such as Cherry Garcia and New York Super Fudge Chunk were created. We were treated to samples of their new flavor, Birthday Cake, which they developed to celebrate their 30th birthday. It is yellow cake flavored ice cream with a chocolate frosting swirl. It was good but not my favorite. They serve the ice cream in small paper cups stuffed with a nice sized scoop. Our tour guide explained they had one rule—that there would be no ice cream left behind on the tray when we left. Since there were 3 samples left and no one was getting them I helped out by eating one. Then, as we were all leaving, Penny pointed out that there was still one sample left. No one was going to take it—so I helped out once again and grabbed it. I couldn’t let the rule be broken.
......................................Penny Taking Picture at B&J's
On our drives up and back Penny entertained herself by finding Oldies stations on the radio.
That’s all I’ve got tonight—more later.
