The 18-Minute Mile

That’s once again the blistering pace set by me, Christy and Christian in the Gate River Run (Walk).  That’s the same as we did last year.

I am pleased that I am not sore after the walk.  I was stiff for the rest of the day Saturday but after sleeping there were no ill effects from the walk at all.

The walk wasn’t as exciting as it has been in past years.  It was windy and coolish and we were at the very end of the walking group.  There was less enthusiasm in the spectators by the time we got to them.  It was still fun and there were some high points.  I think the best was the person holding the sign that stated this was the “WORST PARADE EVER”.

This year I drove myself there.  I got off early at 6:06 AM and it only took about 15 minutes for me to get there and be parked.  I used the 2nd exit for the stadium and parked in the grass and gravel lot right across from the stadium and the race finish line.  I read my kindle and waited until about 7:30 to head over and meet C&C. A reminder for next time – there are no waiting times to use the port-a-potties on the ramp to the Hart Bridge if one needs a potty break late in the walk.

This year the race was well organized.  Runners were released in waves and you had to turn in a tab from your bib to get your finish medal.

This year both Karen and Tim weren’t able to walk.  They were completing the process of selling their house.  Maybe next year Karen will join us.  She says she may run (not walk) it next year.
