Monday Rambles

It’s not a rainy day and Monday but it is a Monday.

I had forgotten to have my lab work done for my tomorrow’s doctor’s appointment so I had to have that done today. That meant fasting until the blood was drawn. That’s OK but I also had a dental appointment at 8AM to have my replacement crown put in. That meant no food until at least 9:30 or 10 AM. Surprisingly that didn’t prove to be a problem. My tummy gurgled a couple times at the dentist but no one noticed and I wasn’t really feeling hungry.

The dentist did have a problem. When she tried to fit the crown on my tooth it didn’t seat correctly. It wobbled. She said that in this case her telling me “you rock” was not a good thing. She tried a few minor adjustments to my tooth but it didn’t work. They had to make another impression and redo the gold crown. That meant a shot of novacane (or whatever they use) and some trimming on my gums, then biting down on the gooky stuff that forms the impression until my jaw hurt. Now I go back late this month to get the new crown. Maybe they will be successful then.

Last night I boxed up the books-on-CD we are sending to Jody. It turned out to be 48 books and a total of 422 CDs. She has a long commute and goes through books quickly.

I finished up most of the necessary yard and garden work today. I tested the garden irrigation system for the first time and everything worked as advertised. I didn’t leave any open lines and every plant had its line working. Out in the front yard I laid a few new squares of turf so I also set the sprinklers to water them twice a day. The garden only gets refilled once a day.

At Christmas time we bought a set of 6 little LED flashlights that are just the right size and illumination for most jobs. (Christy saw the add for these) I usually lose track of flashlights such that when I really need one I have to look for it. I’m proud to say that after almost 4 months I can account for all 6 of the lights and have remembered to return them to their proper locations after I use them. Will I make 5 months?

I don’t pull an all-nighter (sleeping through the night) often. Usually I wake up twice. Once about an hour and a half after I fall asleep and then again about 4 hours later. Too much liquid before bed will increase the wake-ups to 3 or 4. My dreams are usually interesting but rarely are set in the present. I’m either with the friends I grew up with in Connecticut or back at work or in college. Sometimes I dream about our kids when they were small. I have no idea what this means.

Now that the garden is in, the weather has turned cold. It’s supposed to go down to 34 tonight, close to freezing. I’ve covered the basil that’s my least cold-tolerant plant. This should be the last time it gets this cold.

It’s time to go feed some kitties.
